A New Future for Former Foundry Site
IWM was the exclusive remediation firm engaged in the clean-up of PCBs and arsenic at the National Malleable Castings Co. Works site, a former iron foundry in the heart of Haughville, Indiana. The IWM team addressed the in-ground contamination by employing real-time soil confirmation testing that supplemented the original soil removal plan to determine efficiently where to continue removing contaminated dirt. This approach was critical in helping the time-sensitive project obtain regulatory closure on the contamination and meet its deadlines for low-income housing tax credits and overall timeline.
Keystone Construction coordinated efforts with all applicable government entities, secured funding, and ultimately designed and developed 71-units of affordable housing for veterans struggling with homelessness. Steven Meyer, Former Administrator of Brownfield Redevelopment, City of Indianapolis said, "Lincoln Apartments is a great example of the kinds of partnerships necessary to redevelop a site like this, especially on an accelerated timeline. We’re proud that the Brownfields Program was able to assist veterans in need."
